MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Post college, 24 years ago I landed on the East Coast and a few years later became a personal trainer. I have worked with men and women in the health & wellness industry for over 20 years. Four years ago, I lost my health which made me make a lot of decisions regarding the way I did my every day stuff including workouts, self-care, my thoughts, and nutrition differently with a TON of healing. I now work with men and women who have been diagnosed with cancer, auto immunity, hormone imbalance and weightloss. What started as a quest to heal my body, mind and spirit, it landed me an incredible opportunity to share my story and help others do the same. I’ve studied exercise psychology, nutrition, received my personal training certification along with years later graduating with a holistic MBA.
This is where Angie Bloom Holistic Health & Wellness was born. I work one on one with men and women located all over the world.
I believe that good nutrition is the foundation for living a vibrant, happy, and successful life. I also believe that health is not only about the food that we eat, but the way we move, the thoughts we think, and our relationships with others.
As I continued to learn, through the past 4 years, I had a heavy metal test drawn with my functional medicine doctor. Much to surprise, my heavy metals (mostly lead and mercury) were off the charts and I needed to figure out where this was coming from. I was not a child subjected to lead paint and this test explained some lingering symptoms I was continuing to experience.
As I work with many hundreds of clients throughout the 20 years, my beliefs and knowledge has massively expanded. We are so much more than our exercise regimen, the food we eat and the thoughts we think. We are also what we put on our skin. Now don’t get me wrong food is so important but so is how we treat our bodies, including the thoughts we think, and what we put on our skin every single day.
If you’ve been following my posts for any length of time, you can see I am very compassionate about cosmetic reform and the whole personal care industry. About 4 years ago, I learned that my scalp and skin issues were not only from my gut being imbalanced but that it was from the silicone in my shampoo. I landed on a mission based company out of Santa Monica. I had been purchasing cleaner products but not all organic, or mineral based companies, or natural products are the same. What I started learning truly SHOCKED ME. I also asked myself the question prior to partnering with Beautycounter how did I not know how under regulated these products are that we wear on our skin every single day? That terms like natural, organic, safe, clean and green...are not regulated, and any company can use them on their products no matter the ingredients.
Here are some of the facts that blew me away:
The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938. At the time lead paint was legal, smoking on airplanes was allowed, and a postage stamp cost 3 cents. How can this be? You might think the FDA has the power to protect you regarding your personal care products but it couldn’t be further from the truth. The FDA can help protect you with the food chain but when it comes the 62 BILLION cosmetic industry not so much.
Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned close to 1,400 chemicals in personal care products. The United States? Has banned 30 to date.
The average woman uses 12 products before she leaves the house in the morning, resulting in exposure to more than 185 potentially harmful ingredients.
The more I learn about this industry, the more I want to go to the source and use my voice for change. And so here I am, trying to earn a spot on the bi-annual advocacy trip to Washington DC with Beautycounter. There are 2 spots per state, and I am working hard for one of the two in NH. Three days of lobbying for more laws to protect our health, pushing for a cleaner future for us and the generations to follow. Working towards changing the narrative of the personal care industry.
How can you help?
The two consultants from each state with the highest number of points at the end of January and February, will earn the trip. Points are earned from sales and adding voices to our mission (joining me team!). If you've been wanting to transition to some safer products that perform amazingly well, now is a great time because it will help me earn the chance to advocate on behalf of you! If you are already a client of mine, I appreciate your support so much and THANK YOU! YOU are voting with your dollars. Every single purchase in January or February gets me closer to this goal.
If you’ve ever been curious about Beautycounter and the work we are doing I would be honored to chat with you. E-mail me at angie@angiebloom.com.
If you have a friend or a neighbor that you know would benefit from using safer skincare or cosmetics, send them my way!
I believe in what we are doing so much and I want to walk those halls of Congress and show up for #betterbeauty. I want to show my kids that advocating does make a difference.
I want to MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
One last way to help: Text BETTERBEAUTY to 52886 to ask your member of Congress to support better beauty laws. It will auto generate an email for you - it takes 2 minutes and couldn't be easier!
Guys we can do this together! When I’m standing in Washington you will know it’s because of YOU and your support that I’m advocating on my and your behalf.
