From their famous shrimp and grits was wonderful and yummy and the second plate was piled high with fried oysters, Hymans Seafood is a rite of passage for anyone exploring Charleston's culinary gems. Be sure to arrive early, as the restaurant's storied reputation often attracts a bustling crowd eager to savor its traditional flavors. There is a connected gift shop, which is cute to find some unique souvenirs.
Innovative Eats at AMEN Street Fish & Raw Bar
For those with a penchant for modern twists on classic seafood, AMEN Street Fish & Raw Bar offers a fresh take on oceanic fare. Located just steps away from Charleston's historic market, and right across the street from the Palmetto Hotel, AMEN is known for its innovative menu that includes everything from crispy calamari to succulent peel and eat shrimp. Diners can enjoy their meal amidst the charming ambiance of revitalized brick walls and wooden beams, ensuring both a visual and gastronomic feast. I absolutely love a good salad, and the Caesar salad did not disappoint and the arugula and fig salad was delicious, each day we paired it with the fresh catch of the day. A must-try, are the Fried Green Tomatoes served with creamy rémoulade sauce, a southern classic with an elevated touch.

This commitment to quality is evident in every dish, from the rich flavors of the shrimp and grits to the tender grilled salmon. And for those looking for a lighter option, the menu also includes vegetarian and gluten-free options.

DFTI Boutique, located in the heart of downtown, is a hidden gem among the city's many shopping destinations. It boasts a unique selection of high-end fashion pieces and accessories from both established and up-and-coming designers.
Upon entering the boutique, customers are greeted by sleek, modern decor and racks upon racks of designer clothing. The store's knowledgeable staff are always on hand to offer styling advice and help customers find the perfect outfit for any occasion.
What sets DFTI Boutique apart from other stores is its commitment to sustainability. All their clothing is made from eco-friendly materials and each purchase includes a donation to a local environmental charity. King Street has an array of shops and local artisans. You can honestly spend an entire day on King Street, shopping and eating. I loved how easy it was to find everything in Charleston, and how the ratio of food vs. shopping venues was really quite appealing. Don’t forget to grab an ice cream and Off Tracks, I had the cookie monster and fudge brownie on a waffle cone, it was so good. Off Tracks creates traditional and vegan ice cream in classic and inventive flavors. They make their own ice cream from scratch using only clean ingredients sourced fresh from Lowcountry.
The Charleston City Market - An Iconic Souvenir Stop
The Charleston City Market is a must-visit for anyone seeking to bring home a piece of the city's history with them. Located in four open-air buildings that date back to the 1800s, the market is a bustling hub of local vendors selling everything from handmade crafts to traditional Gullah sweet grass baskets. Stroll through the market and take in the sights, sounds, and smells of Charleston while picking up souvenirs for yourself or loved ones. Make sure to go a few times, as the stores or local artists change. I made the mistake of waiting to grab an oyster shell rainbow row souvenir, and the next day they were gone!

The market is a treasure trove for those seeking unique mementos or gifts, with vendors showcasing local artistry and craftsmanship. Be sure to carve out time during your visit to explore the vibrant stalls and engage with the artisans who call this market home.
A Morning Workout at Monster's Ballroom Gym
For fitness enthusiasts, Monster's Ballroom Gym provides an invigorating way to start the day amidst Charleston's charming surroundings. This state-of-the-art gym offers a range of equipment and classes to suit all fitness levels, ensuring a challenging workout tailored to your needs. After your session, you'll be ready to take on all that Charleston has to offer with renewed energy and vitality. A typical day would be walking to the gym from our hotel which a little over a mile, then heading to King Street having a Playa Bowl for a wonderful post workout meal.

Located in the heart of Marion Square, the Charleston Farmers Market is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates fresh produce, artisanal goods, and a lively atmosphere. Open seasonally, this market is a beloved staple for both locals and visitors, offering a wide array of farm-fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, and handcrafted items. Stroll through the bustling stalls, where you can sample local delicacies and meet the farmers and artisans who bring their best each week. With live music and family-friendly activities, the Charleston Farmers Market is not just a shopping destination but a vibrant community gathering that celebrates the best of local culture and cuisine.
Wrapping Up with the Best Queso at Ru Ru's Taqueria
No visit to Charleston would be complete without a trip to Ru Ru's Taqueria, where you'll find the city's best queso. This lively eatery serves up a tempting array of Mexican-inspired dishes, but the queso steals the show with its creamy texture and bold flavors. Whether enjoyed as an appetizer or a standalone snack, this cheesy delight leaves a lasting impression on all who taste it. Grab the trio, which was guacamole, salsa and queso, I LOVE Mexican food and I have to say this was the best salsa, guac and queso in the city, but I would skip the tacos, go for drinks and apps.
Dining at Pearlz Oyster Bar
A trip to Charleston is not complete without indulging in the ocean's bounty at Pearlz Oyster Bar. Known for its fresh, locally sourced seafood, Pearlz offers a dining experience that tickles the taste buds and feeds the soul. The crown jewel of their menu is undoubtedly the seafood tower, a stunning display that features an assortment of the freshest oysters, shrimp, clams, and crab legs arranged artfully atop layers of crushed ice. The seafood tower is a feast for both the eyes and the palate, offering a taste of the sea in every bite. Perfectly shucked oysters, tender shrimp, and succulent crab legs are complemented by zesty sauces and fresh lemon wedges, providing a truly unforgettable experience for seafood lovers. Pearlz Oyster Bar delivers not only on flavor, but also on ambiance, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a taste of Charleston's renowned culinary scene.
Here is a list of restaurants to take a look at that were recommended by locals that lived there. We asked around and tried to go to as many restaurants that we could and some were a miss while others were so yummy! For instance, the Roof Top Bar, this is popular due to the views at the top, but my recommendation is grab a drink, soak in the views and go somewhere else to eat. I didn’t love the food and really wanted to LOVE it. I also wanted to try but ran out of time, but locals loved some of the listed restaurants below:
